Quilty Cards

I've seen quilt block cards around for some time now and have always been intrigued by them because of my general love for quilts. I have a few precious quilts in my home since I come from a family of quilters.  I have an old, old quilt from my grandmother that is wonderfully worn and well loved.  Look at these delicious vintage prints!  I'll show more of it in the next post.

I've had it stored in an antique cabinet, but want to get it out and display it now that my decor is transitioning to touches of shabby chic.

I just recently started displaying a quilt my mother made for me.  I'd kept in on the bed in one of our guest rooms, but decided I wanted it in a more prominent place.  It's now in my dining room....I know, an odd place for a quilt, but it really does fit there.

I love the colors and variety in the blocks.  It just makes me happy when I look at it.  When I do, I think of my mother, the love she invested in that quilt, and all the wonderful things I love most about her.

My quilty cards will never be the treasures my quilts are, but maybe they too will bring a smile to someone's face.  Here's the first one.  I'll share more later.

I was so intrigued by this one when I first saw the pattern, and I was amazed at how simple it is to reproduce.  The cream design is made using the Lattice die from Stampin' Up!.  I cut one in vanilla, then one each of three different patterned papers (retired SU).  The inside areas just fall out of the vanilla "frame."

I positioned the frame on a square of Old Olive cardstock, then adhered the inside pieces from matching sections of the other lattice dies.  I could cut all the dies at once, so this is a real time saver.  Plus there are plenty of patterned paper pieces left over.  With one more cut of two-three layers of Very Vanilla cardstock, I could easily get several more cards.

Once all the pieces were adhered to the green square, I ran the entire piece through my Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder from Stampin' Up! This makes all the pieces meld together and gives a wonderful quilted look.

I just added a couple more layers, a satin bow and coordinating button for the final embellishment.  When I decide the occasion for sending the card, I'll add a sentiment below the bow.

I'm still making my quilty cards, so I'll have more to share soon.

Love the quilt story. I think I should create a mini album to tell the story of my quilt. I run out to my dining room to see if I had space to display a quilt - yes I do! Your card is pretty and reminds me of the double wedding ring one I made. It was my first one I ever made. At long last we get to see some of the decorating make over. :)
